Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Competitors App (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Parents are OK: Senior Safety mobile application and related services (the “Service”).

We designed the Service around a simple idea: the less data we need, the better it works. This policy reflects that.

1. Who is a “user”

The Service has two roles, and we collect different data for each:

  • Elder — the person being monitored. The Elder’s phone runs the app in the background.
  • Guardian — the family member receiving alerts. The Guardian signs in with a Google or Apple account.

Where relevant below, we’ll say which role the data applies to.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Display name entered at setup (e.g. “Mom”, “Sarah”).
  • Phone number (optional, for SMS fallback alerts only).
  • Google or Apple account identity (Guardians only) — we receive your user ID and email from the identity provider; we do not receive your password.
  • Pairing codes you enter to link an Elder and a Guardian.
  • Alert threshold preferences (how long is “too long”, SMS on/off, pause state, etc.).

2.2 Information collected automatically (Elder device)

To detect that the device is still in normal use, the app reads the following on the Elder phone:

  • Device status signals: battery level, charging state, online/offline connectivity.
  • Usage signals (Android): whether the screen was recently unlocked, and whether an app was recently in the foreground (via Android’s UsageStatsManager). We record that activity happened, not which apps were opened in any detail we send off-device beyond a coarse summary needed for the heartbeat.
  • Motion signals: brief accelerometer samples taken during the phone’s normal maintenance windows, used to detect movement and (on Android) possible falls.
  • Device identifiers: a randomly generated UUID per install, a push-notification token (FCM), and the OS platform.

2.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not access the microphone or camera.
  • We do not collect continuous GPS location or a history of where the Elder goes.
  • We do not read messages, contacts, photos, or the content of notifications.
  • We do not record audio or video.
  • We do not build advertising profiles.

3. How we use the information

We use the information above solely to:

  1. Operate the core monitoring and alerting function of the Service.
  2. Deliver push and SMS alerts to Guardians when thresholds are breached.
  3. Authenticate Guardians and link them to the correct Elder.
  4. Process subscription payments through Apple or Google (we receive a receipt, not your card).
  5. Diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
  6. Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it to target advertising.

4. Who we share it with

We share the minimum necessary with a small number of service providers:

  • Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Authentication) — hosting and push delivery.
  • Apple Push Notification service — push delivery on iOS.
  • Twilio — SMS fallback delivery (only if you enable it, and only the destination number and alert text).
  • Apple and Google — subscription billing and receipt validation.

Guardians paired to an Elder will of course see that Elder’s status signals and alerts — that is the purpose of the Service. An Elder can unpair a Guardian at any time from the app.

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety of a user.

5. Where data is stored

Service data is stored on Google Cloud by our backend providers. By using the Service you acknowledge that your data may be processed in countries other than your own.

6. How long we keep it

  • Heartbeat and activity data: retained for up to 30 days to allow trend display, then deleted or aggregated.
  • Alert history: retained for up to 90 days.
  • Account and pairing data: retained while your account is active, and deleted within 30 days of account deletion.
  • Subscription records: retained as long as required by tax and accounting law in the EU.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (EU/UK GDPR, California CCPA, etc.) you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Export your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can exercise most of these directly inside the app (Settings → Delete account). For anything else, write to mobile – at – competitors – dot – app

8. Children

The Service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has registered, contact us and we will delete the account.

9. Security

We use TLS in transit, encryption at rest on our cloud provider, and access controls on our backend. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your data we will notify you as required by applicable law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app and by updating the “Last updated” date above. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
